Honestly, the branch on Smith is not worth it. Perhaps the original location in the hawker center is better. There's no AC and the place is very run down.
Definitely not.
New name: Hawker Chan

Nice and affordable one-star michelin meal. Not understanding why so many disappointment from people as you are paying a HAWKER PRICE MEAL what do you expect even though they got one star? Stars are not awarded by us anyway. I'm just there to fill my hungry tummy. The soya sauce chicken is flavourful and tender not drying like some other stall.
Most inexpensive Great Michelin star plate - simple, straightforward and delicious.
I don’t know what to say . I’ve been , I’ve try , I’m confused 😐. I thought the chicken was a little chewy but that is maybe how they like it here but I just wanted to say that for me the best chicken rice was at the ritz at the bar or the regular Resto now for the outstanding is the crispy duck at their star Michelin restaurant that was a wow factor it was like the best crispy pork belly I had one time .
Tasty soya sauce chicken! You may want to nibble bones for a while. You should experience this taste once in your life. The price is low even though they got Michelin. It’s crowded at lunch and dinner time but don’t worry. Their service and operation is good.
Tapou, but did not come with chilli.
Usually will have to queue half an hour. The char siew and soy source chicken is good. And people buying whole chicken home for family. I bought 3 packets home for 3 meals.
The "star" of the place, shines bright. With a really straight to the point flavor profile. It's almost sweet, but then it stops and the flavor becomes slightly smokey and highly complex. I honestly didn't notice that I ran out of chicken as I was finishing my meal. Besides that, the chicken is so tender and the sauce...seriously, I'd buy it on it's own.
1 Word = Disappointed. Previously Before they have sold to another company, the tasted by the original owner aka chef, the taste was Very Good. Today order the Chicken, oh no...The taste is BELOW average. Not like the good old days. Only good is the BOX, the packaging. lol
Lost much flair. Food was ok but not special. Very touristic.
the soya chicken is good, tender meat. the char siew is good also, but can't say the same for the roasted pork.
Good, cheap, fast. Chicken and BBQ pork very good. I think this is the most cheaper Michelin 1 star chicken rice
Omg this place is amazing! I got there at the perfect time because the line was out the door by the time I got my food. Maybe get there for an early lunch? Can’t wait to go back next time. Try the pork and noodles; so good and cheap!!!
Don’t understand the hype. This place always has a line but I think it’s mostly tourists in the line and not locals. Found the meats OK but wouldn’t rush back, have had much better. Meats were kind of flavorless and slightly tough. Maybe their popularity has got the best of them? There is another branch that is outside of the hawker stall; though, that isn’t the one that got the Michelin star.
Was it worth it? The food was nice, but not better than other good restaurants. It feels like an fastfood restaurant like MacDonalds. If you're there it's worth to try it out as it's quite cheap. I waited 10 minutes.
Tender chicken. Usually I only eat white chicken not roast as I don't like meat being too dry. But their chicken is quite nice during earlier timing. Rice can't complain as I see many complain about rice not fragrance enough but it's white rice I don't think it's those "chicken rice" rice which you expect.
Really tasty food, as the Michelin guide would denote. Priced fairly for the quality received and portioned well. We ordered the char siu plate, crispy pork plate and roast duck plate.Note: no Hainese chicken at the restaurant, only served at the hawker stand in food center around the corner.
If you think you are paying 5€ for an ex-michelin star it is absolutely worthy.
Tried a few times. Think it’s overrated! You can easily find as good or better ones in many places in Singapore.
First of all: The line was soo long. But it was fine, maybe it’s worth the hype. But then: The rice was dry, bland and oily. GrossThe chicken was super bland, tough and even dry. I can find 100 places which has chicken in SG. It’s not even Kampung chicken! Don’t know why Michelin people liked this.
The food had absolutely nothing associated with their huge stardom, not even the slightest given that the chicken rice, which is their main selling dish, obviously, had got no chicken taste to it at all. The rice could not be even saved by its soul companion, the chilli sauce, which was strangely sweet and not spicy nor garlicky. And the peanuts, chicken rice with peanuts, now that's groundbreaking. It simply can't match with the many other stalls out there selling much better chicken rice, with lower prices. The only thing that save this shop from being a complete bore would be the comfortable air-conditioning, otherwise, just skip it.
The soy chicken tastes good and is very tender but I don’t think it’s anything special and it’s not worth the hype. The lineup during lunch time is around a 40 minute wait. It’s cheap but I’m sure there’s better places out there with less wait time.
Incredibly cheap, but the quality of meat and the way it's been cooked and flavoured in these dishes is worth multiple times more than what you pay for it. Even the vegetables tasted great. Anyone giving less than five stars is expecting way too much. I'd recommend the noodles over the rice.
A very disappointing experience. The rice was missing the usual distinct fragrance of the oily rice that usually comes with the dish, as well as being dry. The chicken tasted bland and unremarkable. The beans on the side is unusual, and I didn't care for the added texture to the meal. At least the meal is cheap, considering it's star status as well as the place being air-conditioned. The service is quick and efficient.
Simply delicious and affordable. Michelin star might have hyped up the place, but still worth a go.
Apart from the waiting time soy sauce chicken pretty good. Soft and succulent. Well balanced sauce salty and sweet. Wish the green chili was a little crunchier and that would have been perfect. Noodles are done just right so all good there. Will be back for sure but probably at even a better time. 30mins a little too long a wait. Oh yes, don't bother trying the BBQ porks as there are better else where Stick to what they are good at Soy Sauce Chicken.
The cheapest 1 star michelin in the world may not be the best meal you will try in the city but it is certainly an excellent one. For the mere price of 2,80S$ my expectations were not as high but I was very surprised by the tenderness and taste of the meat.I should say that although the stand is known for the chicken, you should try the roasted pork. It is quite amazing
The chicken and pork tastes pretty okay, but the rice was a disappointment. It didn't have the fluffy texture and flavour (except for the parts that were doused in sauce).
Please come to the original hawker stall, the taste is better than their branches, air conditioned shops. I’ve eaten at their shops a few times, nothing compare to the stall. The taste of the chicken is flavourful, I really love it. Do come before 2pm it is usually sold out around 2 pm. Skip the shops and come to the original stall where the owner is cooking those chicken himself.
Very disappointing. Having queued for a short while, the rice was bland, the chicken chewy and whilst the sauce was amazing, there was not nearly enough of it.I had really looked forward to eating here and was sorely disappointed. I have eaten at plenty more hawker stalls which were a lot better.
Not really best in Singapore. Try some un-famous place much special.
Finally tried the cheapest one Michelin star eatery and the food is decent! The noodles are cooked nicely and springy. The soy sauce chicken is soft and flavourful. And covering them all is the sweet soy sauce. It's a decent dish but nothing mind-blowing that screams '1 Michelin Star'. Worth a try at least once.
Seriously disappointed by how average this place was. I had such high hopes after hearing so much about it. They lean very heavily into the fact they have a Michelin star but ultimately the food left much to be desired. We ordered the soya chicken, fried dumplings and toady pork. The chicken and pork were Luke warm and the dumplings had little filling and lots of pastry. Don't believe the hype, go elsewhere.
This place just broke my heart.First of all there are two places here - one is the original food stall that's on the second floor of the stalls at the end of Smith street. They opened a restaurant on the street level across the street with the same menu.I was at the stall, stood in a reasonable line for about 25 mins and got to order.Chicken is at room temperature, which is a bummer, it is tender and full of flavor but not a mind blowing amazing bite. It comes with the bones as well. Noodles are just plain noodles, the sauce with the spicy paste is very good. How this place got to the exposure it got from Michelin? No idea, why they choose this place over other stalls in Singapore that are much better? I don't know. The price is cheap, but other stalls with similar portion size of a different style of chicken or duck are similarly priced, maybe 1 SGD more expensive. This is not worth 1 minute of line, sorry.
Good, cheap, fast food spot. Chicken and BBQ pork was good. Roast pork was kinda salty but otherwise it hits the spot well. Nothing crazy fancy just good cheap food. People come in and out fast so waits usually aren't so bad. Do try and head over to the Chinatown heritage for more variety - enjoy
Classic example of how Michelin ruins a restaurant. As a person who has had this kind of food since I was born, the tastes of their foods are definitely above average. The taste of the soy sauce chicken, though not stunning, is probably one of the best I have had. Nevertheless, the dining experience is a disaster. There are just way too many people there trying to get the food (probably as an result of the Michelin star), and the restaurant is now ran like a MacDonald instead of a neiborhood dinner, which is how these places usually are. Something about the casualness and the familiar connection to the city is diminished. In all, considering the current state of this restaurant, I wouldn't recommend paying a special visit to this place. The essence is lost.
Bad. Soya chicken is awful. Service worse. Totally over-rated. They behave as if they are the best food in Singapore.
As many others have stated, the popularity may have gotten the better of this. Got the most popular dish but it wasn't very hot. Flavors were good but not amazing as one would expect from a Michelin star restaurant. However, price is extremely affordable.
The queue is long, wait in the line and the staff will beckon you to go near the stall for ordering. It’s really cheap but I find the food average, not worth the queue. Not sure how Michelin was given and definitely the inspector NOT a local or Asian., There are definitely nicer versions around Singapore. I guess every Singaporean have their fav char siew (like Fatty Cheong for me) and roast duck stalks but Michelin Star...this is something I don’t understand! This is a tourist must-go and you get long lines due to the Michelin Guide but definitely not representative of Sg culinary scene for Char Siew and Roast Duck Rice. Rice has no taste, sauce average and the roast nothing special.
Decent fast food restaurant. Our meals were barely warm. Noodles were good. Sauce was good. Nothing to write home about. Chicken had a lot of bones. Only worth going if you want to say you've eaten at the cheapest 1 star Michelin restaurant. Almost like a good MacDonald's meal.
Overrated chicken rice. A lot of better taste similar style chicken rice elsewhere. But what I never expect become star of the night; the roasted pork noodle which taste above average. The soup also worth trying
I know the soya sauce chicken is their signature, but their char siew is the undisputed best item here so if you come here it's a must try.The crispy roast pork was so-so though. And do try the fried wantons if it is available!
I think the chicken is sooo tender. I don’t know why people gave bad reviews, was it much better previously? I’m not sure, i only try this today and i am in love with it. Very tasty. They also gave me a lot of meats. The downside is only the queue.
